In the Baptism Ceremony, the essential element is the pouring of water of the head (or full immersion in the water!). There are other rites that are usually included in the Church Service. In the Catholic Church, The person being Baptised is anointed with holy oils. In the Eastern Churches there are similar rites. In the Ancient Catholic tradition, in a traditional latin Baptism, there is a very small amount of salt placed on the tongue. All the above elements are arranged by the Church.
What do you need to organise for a Baptism in the Catholic Church? The most important item is a Baptism Candle. It does not have to be fancy, it should be new and unused. Some kind of what garment is also required, we recommend our Baptism Stole.
